i look for you every day, 2023

8in x 11in x 1.25in
3D Printed PLA, laser engraved acrylic, acrylic paint

Artist statement:
This piece was created as a self-portrait and honorary piece dedicated to my late grandfather, Robert Wernersbach, to permanently live on the shelf where we keep his cremated remains. I 3D printed the photo frame to almost mimic the photo frames seen at the “shrine” surrounding his remains. I painted it bronze gold to signify importance and permanence. The 3D-printed planes are Boeing 707s, which are not manufactured anymore and were my late grandfather's all-time favorite. I included this because it somewhat is a metaphor for the fact that I can no longer see him, for he has passed away. In addition to the planes, the frame holds a piece of laser cut and engraved acrylic with a DFW airport blueprint. I chose this because my grandfather actually helped found DFW airport, worked in aviation for nearly 5 decades, and, growing up, was always the “airplane man” to me. On the back of the acrylic, I have engraved the handwritten words “I Look For You Every Day” to signify my journey of grief and how every day I look for little symbols or feelings that let me know that he is still with me, ultimately falling short.
