Artist statement:
Surveillance and the feeling of being watched are things that have always creeped me out. The fear of not knowing who is watching you at any given time and the grander theme of panopticons. I landed on the idea of creating a surveillance camera to convey my idea of “creep”. I also chose an orange color to symbolize tones of caution and be a nod to a color of visibility and increased sight. “Traffic cone” orange is often used with the intention of being clearly seen, such as safety vests, cones, barricades, etc. Making the security camera this color helped convey my meaning of “creep” because a surveillance device such as the camera I have created would never be depicted in a color that would stand out and be easily seen.
